the point, written by Toni L.A. Cross on 7/16/09

sitting at home
with dishes
chores
runny noses
and sticky fingers.

what is the point
of my existence?
where is the adventure
in my everyday life?

rushing through an airport
late for another flight
cramps in my hands
from signing
autographs.

what is the point
of my existence?
where is the peace
in my everyday life?

Dragging old sneakers
on black pavement
backpack full of
homework
making me slump.

what is the point
of my existence?
Where is the meaning
in my everyday life?

hopping in the car
wet hair slapping
my face
messing up my perfect makeup
static sticking my skirt
to my legs.

what is the point
of my existence?
where is the realness
in my everyday life?

watching the women
with cooing babies
and doting husbands
everyone seems
to have someone
‘cept me.

what is the point
of my existence?
where is that love
in my everyday life?

we are sick of pat answers
colloquialisms
rhetoric
meaninglessness.

what is the point
of our daily existence?
what is this missingness
in our everyday lives?

its not an empty church service
or better grades
or college
careers
babies
men
quiet
or stillness
adventures
or travel.

its not doing something
and its not NOT doing something..

its so much bigger
and yet
so
simple
