first love… Toni L.A. Cross

crunch
tires on gravel
and tar
swish
grass on the side of the car

her fingers
stretch and curl
sweaty
against the fabric of her jeans
it is as if
they have a mind of their own
and are wanting
to reach over
and interlock with his

click
seatbelts unbuckle
thud
car doors open and close

he escorts her
to the door
silent
pleasant tension thick in the air
it is as if
they are trying to stretch each second
and are wanting
to speak
but almost don’t need the words

sigh
her breath escapes
ahem
he clears his throat

they say goodbye
simple pleasantries
longing
to stay longer, to never leave
it is as if
a kiss is hanging between them
and it’s wanting
to exist
to be captured and made reality

My name is Toni Cross, and I was raised on a farm in the far north of the United States. I love to read and write and I hope to use those hobbies in a greater way in the days to come. One of my passions is using whatever influence I have to make a difference in the world.
