Land of snow… A Villanelle by Toni Cross

An army, an army, those feet that trod

In this lonely independent land of snow

Challenging and waiting for an act of God

A race about to become a lightning rod
To wake sleeping ones down below
An army, an army, those feet that trod

Unyielding frozen sod
Furrowed hardened planting row
Challenging and waiting for an act of God

Ground filled with echoes of plowing hooves unshod
Will spring reach the frosty seeds they sow?
An army, an army, those feet that trod

Lining up like a firing squad
Listening for what our hearts know
Challenging and waiting for an act of God

No more fake peeling facade
Exposing our inner hidden foe
Challenging and waiting for an act of God

My name is Toni Cross, and I was raised on a farm in the far north of the United States. I love to read and write and I hope to use those hobbies in a greater way in the days to come. One of my passions is using whatever influence I have to make a difference in the world.

The structure and tone of the poem matched perfectly the image that you’ve used for this poem.
