Surrounded by Tombstones… by Toni L.A. Cross

Surrounded by tombstones

I’m claustrophobic

Within the walls

Of this confining minute

Tomorrow dies

While I breathe

The stale air of Today

Yesterday seems so dear

With its familiar expanse

Wooing me backward

Into the graveyard

Of my mind’s idyllic perfection

And the clock

Pounds out seconds

With slow precision

Melting into a lullaby

As I slip inward

And farther from

The Now

lift your eyes

lift up your soul

take a deep breath

let it make you whole

shake off those chains

this melancholy role

don’t sink to the bottom
repossess the life despair stole

fling back hesitation and sing
echo hope from life’s hilly knoll

colors… Poem and photo by Toni L.A. Cross

swirling inside me
fantastic colors
vibrant and living
tactile colors
roving in my spirit
bold colors
flowing up and heavenward

a-shambles… by Toni L.A. Cross

a-shambles
the wreckage
of building anew
destruction creates
and creation destroys
and on goes the cycle
with all the joys
of building anew
the wreckage

a-shambles
