us tiny bits of matter… by Toni L.A. Cross

just now a screaming baby was born

and somebody else died tired and worn

sweaty clothes fell in a passionate heap

and a girl driving in traffic fell asleep

just now a couple fell in love

while an old lady fed crumbs to a dove

a lonely man bought a case of beer

and a widow wiped away another tear

somewhere someone is laughing til it hurts

a tired young mom is ironing shirts

a cashier is totaling up for the day

and a cat is watching her kittens play

many heartbeats pitter-patter

all of us tiny bits of matter

Answers… by Toni L.A. Cross

Dogs eat grass to cleanse themselves

Of internal impurities

The sky is blue

To make you ask why

A raven is like a writing desk

Because they can both bear doom

On their glossy backs

Globular clusters shine

To keep scientists humble

A basic ingrained desire

Longing for a person to love you forever

You eat too much spinach

Or green jelly-beans

Being cooped up makes any bull mad

And so does the color red

Lyrics are necessary to pin down the words

Hiding in musical depths

You are so tired because you aren’t sleeping

But are staring at this screen

Cats purr just to confuse dogs

And because they want to

And that is the answer

And that is the end

And now you’ll always know

behold humanity… by Toni Cross

this temple filled with flaws
a cathedral most irreverent
dripping with meaningless laws
the dancing delight of amusement
melts into a lull of caprice
drowned in a moment’s berevment
this noise fills silence with peace
humanity’s cavernous mystery
where logic and common sense cease
the endless tangled web of history
where knots only seem to increase

river rough life… by Toni L.A. Cross

pulsing thrum of ecstasy
roaring along the current

sweeping away relational casualties
carelessly tossed as driftwood

icy cold danger and razor sharp hazards
Hiding just beneath the surface

blood-red rapids and rocks up ahead

plunging falls foaming froth

speeding and slamming into reality
a harsh and stinging slap-splash
bubbles of life forced out of within

queer world of filtered shadows
with nothing to breathe
suspended creatures flit by in sight
not caring or noticing a thing

kick, fight, and reach
pull towards the light

or sink to the bottom
and mix with murky clouds of silt
a prisoner for all time

human drive… by Toni L.A. Cross

organic pinch amid a clenching gut
single minded focus lands in a rut
twisting with hunger for who knows what
driving wildly to where worlds abut

single minded focus lands in a rut

driving wildly to where worlds abut
heart beats staccato, pitter-patter-putt

orbiting ?round desire and spinning about
dizzy with panting and wanting to shout
waiting for commencement of another bout
filled with a primal charge drowning out all doubt

dizzy with panting and wanting to shout
childish urges causing a fierce pout
filled with a primal charge drowning out all doubt
watching hormones stretch tall and scout

dizzy with panting and wanting to shout
twisting with hunger for who knows what
filled with a primal charge drowning out all doubt
organic pinch amid a clenching gut
